“Happiness is not so much in having or sharing. We make a living by what we get, but we make a life by what we give.” – Norman MacEwan
More often than not, we are busy trying to make a living. Whether in our cubicles on an 8-hour job or be in an entrepreneurial venture. Nothing wrong with that because that’s just a fact of life that we have to earn to make a living. But somehow what I quoted above says much more that I’m moved to write about it here. And yes, it’s the life that gives that make a life in return.
There’s just so much power in it that it refused to be just an idea. It permeates your mind and warmly touches your heart. It not only reminds you of your purpose in life but also allows you to feel significant. On whatever ground you are right now, you just know there’s just so much to offer and there’s so much hope for those who are needy, hopeless or even those who are just confused or in need of guidance and mentoring. It’s not just the material things, but even the value that we can add to their lives. And yes, it’s your life that you give away that could also make a life for other people in return.
Experiencing happiness is a two way street. It’s not just about being more blessed when you give. But it’s also about being grateful of what you’ve received and how significant could it be to bless others as well. When you give, you actually choose to complete the cycle of being happy.
And yes, it’s not a bad idea to make your life filled with happiness and significance by starting to give in any way you can right now. =)
