Samsung Mobile takes on Tizen platform on its next wearable watch, the Gear 2 and Gear 2 Neo, as launched a couple of days ago at Mobile World Congress 2014 in Barcelona.
Compatibility won’t be an issue cause it can be paired with dozens of Samsung Galaxy phones out of the box, unlike the Galaxy Gear that solely recognizes the Galaxy Note 3 at launch. Other things which makes the smart watch new besides dropping the Galaxy from its name, is the shaved off weight and thickness.
The two latest Gear also take on interchangeable colored straps with Charcoal Black and Wild Orange available for both. Though, a Gold Brown color for the Gear 2 is added, while a Mocha Grey color is included with the Gear 2 Neo. The camera is now placed on Gear 2’s body and not on the strap. The Gear 2 Neo on the other hand, doesn’t come equipped with a camera.
Another great thing about these smart watches duo is that it has stand alone features like being your TV’s remote control, music player, or even your personal fitness coach, with which you can customize your fitness routine, heart monitoring, and with other downloadable health improvement related apps.
Gear 2 has a dual-core processor with 512MB RAM and 4GB of internal memory. It has 1.63-inch Super AMOLED display with 320 x 320 resolution, equipped with 2MP camera (Gear 2 only). It has Bluetooth v4.0 LE and IrLED for connectivity, and is powered with 300mAh battery, which can typically endure 2 to 3 days usage. It is IP67 certified dust and water resistant, with noise cancellation capability.
Samsung Gear 2 and Gear 2 Neo is set to be released world wide by April, 2014. However, pricing details haven’t been announced, yet.
