O+ USA’s definitely not raising a white flag anytime soon on the octal-core race on smartphones locally, bidding a very capable contender, the O+ AIR, which features MediaTek’s MT6592 eight-cored chipset, a 5-inch LUMI display, a 13MP rear shooter, plus a pre-installed Android 4.4 KitKat running OS out of the box with an introductory price of Php13,995.
In terms of competition, the type of the processor seems to be where we first draw the line. And somehow, in the advent of octa-core processor-bearing smartphones, it rallies subsequently with the same chipset, the MT6592 rated at 1.7GHz even for the rest of the pack. So whether we like it or not, the competition lies on other performance factors, build-design, display, power, branding preference, overall user experience, and inevitably on its price.
The O+ AIR did made an effort to differentiate itself from the rest, making its own energy saving dual crystal LUMI display, which boasts of better color reproduction, better viewing angles, and the aforementioned better power consumption. In terms of build quality, it managed to have a metal back cover for a more premium feel and give the total body a very slim profile at 6.8mm. It also has a noticeably thin side bezels, which gives better screen real estate ratio over the AIR’s frontal landscape.

The AIR comes equipped with 13MP rear camera with both autofocus and LED flash, paired with a 5MP front cam. Connectivity-wise, it has W-Fi, Bluetooth, and 3G HSPA+ facility via its dual SIM module. Battery capacity is pegged at 2000mAh, which is in good faith with its energy saving technology that would result to better play and work time in turn.
One of the advantage the O+ AIR also asserts is having the KitKat operating system already installed, coupled with its signature features like Air Shuffle, and other gesture-based controls, which enhances user experience. Now going down to its cost, the introductory price of Php13,995 is almost the same if compared with other brands. However, the Php15,995 tag might be sort of a stretch, imposing that it is a premium smartphone.
Well, the O+ AIR is indeed a premium product, though it could use some more time to let its price hang a bit more longer under the Php14K mark. Availability of O+ AIR is on a nationwide scale, but some of their stores or kiosks still don’t have a stock or have been sold out already. Good luck on the hunt then guys!
