ASUS is making the Intel Atom processors in a good use with their line up of tablets and smartphones. Releasing another variant of the Fonepad 7 bearing dual SIM mode and the Intel Atom Z2520 is pretty much a bold move in getting the cost lower. So, where did the price slash came from, having a model release at Php8,995 to a much affordable Php5,995?
Well, the initial model ASUS FonePad 7 Dual SIM has a 7-inch IPS display with a 1280 x 800 resolution, equipped with a 5MP rear camera and a 1.2MP front-facing. However, the fonepad 7 FE170CG comes with 7-inch LED Backlight WSVGA with a 1020 x 600 resolution display, a 2MP rear, and a 0.3MP front camera. Evidently, it’s a bit less pixel density on the screen and smaller sensor on the shooters.
With processing power, the 1.2GHz Intel Atom Dual Core Z2520 comes with the FE170CG model, coupled with the 1GB of RAM, which makes the performance unchanged. Actually, the 8GB internal storage has been reduced to 4GB, but it still comes with an expansion slot via microSD with up to 64GB capacity, plus the 16GB ASUS WebStorage for a year.
Another thing that you will notice is that the newer ASUS fonepad 7 got slimmer at 10.7 from 11.35mm, and got lighter at 290 from 340 grams. And you still have the same battery capacity rated at 3950 mAh with about 10 hours of battery juice for a day. On connectivity, it has the usual suspects including Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, and GPS support, besides 3G data facility on one of the dual SIM module on board.
Pretty much an upgrade on design, persistent performance, with a slight trade off on the display and multimedia consumption. The ASUS fonepad 7 FE170CG comes pre-installed with Android 4.3 Jelly Bean, though upgradable to KitKat 4.4. It’s available in colors red, blue, white and black, again at a very affordable price of Php5,995.
