Alcatel Mobile Philippines might just launch the Alcatel One Touch EVO 8HD when they just posted a teaser on their FB page saying, “Turn on the TV please! Soon in ALCATEL ONE TOUCH PHILIPPINES!”
Somehow, it made us think that it can be an add-on feature like being able to watch TV directly on your tab or smartphone, though it can just be a functionality that allows you to wirelessly mirror your high-def videos from the tab to your TV like via Miracast, which is found on its latest tablet offering, the OT EVO 8HD.
Actually, Miracast comes with Android 4.2 Jelly Bean as a feature, and not much of the gadgets right now have it. The beauty of Miracast is it allows you to share your screen via Wi-Fi in real time, whether you video stream from the web or just play your internal movie files. However, if you have a non-Miracast compatible TV, then you have to still buy a wireless display adapter like Netgear’s Push2TV PTV3000, which you plug-in to your TV’s HDMI port.
Google recently launched Android 4.3 along with Chromecast, a dongle with an HDMI output and works via Wi-Fi as well. Though, Chromecast only allows you to stream through your Chrome web browser, and not from your own tablet’s files like Miracast.
If you look on their local website, the Alcatel One Touch EVO 8HD has a tag of “Available SOON”. If taken to account, then it really has a greater possibility that it is “it”. Anyway, what’s unique with this OT EVO 8HD is that it has a removable 3G/4G module. As in a hardware that you can easily insert to the tab if you like to go 3G or even 4G on mobile online access. Not to mention it still has a 9-mm thin tablet profile as well. For more on the hardware, let’s take a quick look on the specs sheet of EVO 8HD below:
